Hand-carved from aromatic Japanese camphor wood and finished with luminous Urushi lacquer, works blends traditional craftsmanship with the enigmatic storytelling of Ai Hashimoto’s graphic novels.
In the story called “Metamorphosis” by Hashimoto, a mysterious cat lives in a perpetual liminal state̶like Schrödinger’s cat̶its true action or condition unknown. Caught mid- flight, this sculpture captures that same suspended mystery, inviting endless interpretation.
