Hand-carved from aromatic Japanese camphor wood and finished with luminous urushi lacquer, this piece blends traditional craftsmanship with the enigmatic storytelling of Ai Hashimoto’s graphic novels.
In Hashimoto's story “Metamorphosis”, a mysterious cat lives in a perpetual liminal state, like Schrödinger's cat, with its true action or condition unknown. Caught mid-flight, this sculpture captures that same suspended mystery, inviting endless interpretation.
