With her current work, Robin Pieterse (1999, NL) investigates the body and it's natural processes. More specifically, she questions what it means to live inside a human body and explores the different aspects of natural and mental phenomena that revolve around having a physical form.
"I treat the body as a temporal vessel. Is the body holding us or are we holding a body? is there such a thing as a soul or is believing in one just a trick of the mind and a clever way to maintain the species. are we really just subject to years and years of evolutionary impulses?"
Using latex, plaster and ceramics, robin creates objects that imitate a physical form. The objects have a strange connection to the body and its processes, but have been morphed into a surreal image. The hollow vessels can hold or possibly have held something. Using the body as an ephemeral utility vessel, the work creates connections to abjection, Sci-Fi and Evolution
